Vacancy: West Lochaber Medical Practice – Salaried GPs

WLMPSix Salaried GPs wanted for new remote and rural Medical Practice

There is still an exciting opportunity to join the newly formed West Lochaber Medical Practice (WLMP). You can become part of our team of eight remote and rural General Practitioners, living and working in the rugged Scottish West Highlands, an area of outstanding natural beauty.

The West Lochaber Medical Practice is the result of the amalgamation of the Practices of Mallaig and Arisaig, The Small Isles and Acharacle. Our territory covers three types of practice area; mainland accessible, mainland remote and offshore remote. We provide medical services to 3200 patients across 2000kmÇ of islands, peninsula and mainland. We require six dependable and adaptable GPs who are willing to commit to an innovative new model of service provision.

Two teams of Salaried GPs will be led by a Clinical and Management Team Leader. The Mallaig Health Centre is the administrative hub with integrated IT access to Ardnamurchan and The Small Isles premises. We are working towards becoming paperless, using Vision and Docman.

Four Salaried GPs based at the Mallaig Health Centre will provide services to the North WLMP territory, extending from Knoydart to Glenuig, including a scheduled visiting service to the Small Isles. A pharmacy is located within the village of Mallaig.

The second team of three Salaried GPs will be based at the Acharacle Health Centre providing services to the South WLMP territory from Glenuig to Acharacle, west along the Ardnamurchan peninsula and east to Strontian. We provide dispensing services from this health centre. Both teams are part of the single, mutually supportive WLMP.

We are looking for individuals who are willing to work within a rota system that requires a flexible team approach. In return we offer excellent annual leave and a competitive salary. Successful candidates may qualify for Golden Hello. Job share applications will be considered.

This unique opportunity is ideal for GPs who enjoy the challenges of remote and rural living and have a keen interest in outdoor pursuits.

Our official start date for WLMP is Monday 3rd February 2014, however successful applicants may start sooner.

Reliability, flexibility and resilience are essential.
