- 85 working days per year, distributed per mutual agreement. ~£35.000/year + NHS pension.
- As associate GP you will cover for the absence of the principal GP.
- There is no OOH commitment.
- The practice uses EMIS and Docman and is subsequently essentially paper-free.
- You will be a full member of staff with all employment rights (e.g. maternity leave).
Surgeries can vary in intensity, but are generally quiet and give enough opportunity to practice good whole person medicine.
Good emergency skills and an interest in women’s health would be of advantage. The practice takes an active interest in development of new skills and will fund appropriate courses.
The working days can be arranged in an entirely flexible fashion – be it a regular (e.g. weekly) presence or blocks of days or weeks – as long as the annual and study leave of the principal is covered, the rest is entirely up to mutual agreement.
This position and similar positions in neighbouring practices have in the past been held by people who were semi-retired, by those who wanted to bring up a family but maintain an active and exciting career, by those who had interests outside of medicine or by those who simply wanted a permanent base to build otherwise a portfolio career upon, including e.g. intermittent work overseas.
The principal is a member of the Cowal Medical Society which runs a monthly education programme and of a smaller group of local doctors who meet up for mutual support and general banter. The associate would be welcome to take part in both, either or neither.
Local accommodation is available, both temporarily and permanently. Commuting to/from Glasgow is possible
Lochgoilhead is a small Highland village, just a bit over an hour out of Glasgow, on the shores of Loch Goil (a sea loch off Loch Long). We have about 500 patients registered, but see also tourists and a couple of outdoor activity centres to cover.
The village is just next to Arrochar Alps, on the shore of a sea loch. There is good local fishing (sea, loch and river) and plenty of opportunity to pursue an active outdoor life, including kayaking, hillwalking and sailing. The village has an active social life with plenty of clubs, a leisure centre with half Olympic length swimming pool, multicourt and 9 hole golf course.
The local primary school is small, but excellent.
Starting date is flexible, from 1/9/2015 onwards. We are willing to wait for the right person.
Please feel free to contact the principal Dr Peter von Kaehne or the practice manager Mrs Lorna Alexander for more information.
Please apply directly to the practice with cover letter and CV by email (firstname.lastname@example.org) or mail.
