Vacancy: Alderney, Channel Islands (Salaried GP)

Alderney is a small island around 10 miles from the French coast with a population of just over 2000. Due to the restructuring of GP health services on the island, we are now looking for a forward thinking, proactive and permanent salaried GP to work alongside our GP Clinical Director in our small purpose built surgery.

If you have had enough of NHS cuts, reductions in community hospital beds, CCGs, CQC visits and bemoan a lack of time to spend with your patients because of the mountains of paperwork, the Island Medical Centre may be just what you are looking for. This is old fashioned, unhurried private General Practice where you will be either on call or in the practice seeing patients. Each day we have 15 minute appointments, some booked, some drop-in. You will need to have skills and experience in accident and emergency, pre-hospital care, antenatal care and care of the elderly, to name just a few of the challenges. We are planning some new health initiatives in the next 2 years, which will be exciting for patients and staff alike and will provide an interesting challenge from the outset.

If you are the on-call GP, you will regularly review the long stay patients at the well staffed Mignot Memorial Hospital, do out of hours home visits and also see patients in the Emergency Room. You may be called upon to take a patient to Guernsey on the lifeboat or in a small aeroplane if they are too unwell to stay on the island.

In return, we can offer a substantial salary package without a higher rate of income tax, medical indemnity, free short term accommodation if needed, on call car, and (arguably) the most beautiful beaches in the British Isles. Alderney is not part of the UK and is a popular destination for yachtsmen in the summer. There are good air and sea links to the mainland, France and the other Channel Islands and the standard of living is excellent.

If you would like to join our friendly, hardworking team and would like an informal chat with our Clinical Director please call Tracy Jean, Practice Manager on 01481 822077 or email imc@cwgsy.net

If you still need to be convinced, have a look at this video – and then give us a call!

Vacancy: Colonsay & Oronsay (Relief Salaried GP)

colonsay

We are looking for a relief salaried doctor to provide GP cover for this small, remote Hebridean practice with a community of 130 people in a beautiful island location.

This is a very flexible post, with an initial contract for one year. The successful applicant would be expected to work approximately 12 weeks spread over the year with the dates mutually agreed with the Partners.

You will have 24 hour a day on call responsibility covering the working day and the out of hours for all casualties, emergencies and un-scheduled care. We are open to suggested ways of working that might suit your individual choices.

Good emergency skills with ALS or BASICS training and experience in Accident and Emergency medicine are essential and an ability to use your clinical initiative and resilience a great advantage.

You should be comfortable working on your own in an isolated practice. Previous experience of remote and rural practices would be advantageous although initially gaining experience in post as a locum GP is another option

This would be very suitable for a GP seeking experience in remote and rural medicine in a geographically challenging situation whilst gaining the experience of working as a sole practitioner.

The practice maintains strong links to secondary care and is supported by telemedicine facilities and the Emergency Medical Retrieval Service (EMRS) based in Glasgow.

Starting date is flexible from winter 2016 but we are willing to wait for the right person.

For further information or to arrange an informal chat please email Drs Brooks or Dr Binnie at colonsay.health@nhs.net

Application by email enclosing CV and referees.  This post has now been filled.
