Vacancy: Broadbay Medical Practice, Stornoway (Salaried GP)

Broadbay Medical Practice, Stornoway, Isle of Lewis

Salaried GP 6 to 8 sessions per week

We are a busy practice located in the center of the main town of Stornoway. We serve a population of over 6000 patients. Our catchment area encompasses the town of Stornoway and its outskirts and the semirural area of Broadbay which covers the area of North Tolsta to the tip of the Point peninsula.

We are a large friendly team. We believe our strength lies in a team based approach, recognising individual’s personal abilities and character whilst aiming for a fair work life balance.

Our team consists of 5 GPs (WTE 3.8), 2 part-time Nurse Practitioners who work closely with the GPs and assist with Home Visits, 3 part time Practice Nurses specialising in Chronic Disease Management, a Treatment Room Nurse and a Health Care Assistant all of which are supported by our Administrative and Reception staff.

In addition, we are supported by a Practice based Community Psychiatric Nurse, Midwife and a Primary Care Pharmacist together with Specialist Nurses in Substance Misuse, Dementia, Multiple Sclerosis, Learning Disability and Dementia.

The islands are served by the Western Isles Hospital which is a Rural General Hospital only a 5 min drive from the Practice and at most a 30 minute drive for patients living in outlying areas. The Hospital provides a large number of services of outstanding quality and is staffed with resident consultants in all major specialties. There is also a significant number of nurse led services working for both hospital and community teams.

Salary and working conditions are in line with the BMA contract and you may be eligible for the Golden Hello Scheme. Medical Defence membership subscription is paid by the practice. In addition to daily admin time at the end of each surgery, doctors have weekly admin time allocated pro-rata. For example a GP working 8 sessions per a week will work 7 clinical sessions and have 1 administration session per week.

There is no OOH commitment but this would available through independent arrangement with the Health Board.

The Isle of Lewis is the largest of the Western Isles. The scenery is spectacular yet Lewis is a very affordable area which provides excellent schooling, sport, and leisure facilities in a safe and friendly environment.

If you are interested in hearing more about the post, please telephone Dr Antonio Uceta, Partner or Mrs Nancy Murray, Managing Partner (or indeed any of the other doctors) for an informal chat.

Closing Date: 30 September 2018

Vacancy: Dingwall (Partner/Salaried GP)

Some of the team at Dingwall Medical Centre

The Dingwall Medical Group are looking for a doctor to join the practice. We have a large list size of 11,300 patients. There are currently 9 partners working between 6 and 9 sessions each week. We are a training practice for GPST’s & medical students. Based in a spacious and newly refurbished Health Board owned premises we work alongside our district nursing, social work, podiatry and midwifery colleagues. We are 11 miles away from Raigmore Hospital in Inverness.

We hold to a traditional view of general practice partnership and value continuity of care and providing a mutually supportive working environment. At the same time, we are exploring innovative ways of working by participating in specialist paramedic practitioner training as well as embarking on a trial with a full time physiotherapist providing same day patient assessments.

The practice actively encourages its GP’s to diversify and develop outside interests. We have one partner who is the past chair of the RCGP Scotland, another who is currently the national head of Girlguiding Scotland. Occupational medicine, sports medicine, overseas medical development work, IT, farming and equestrian sports keep the remaining partners occupied.

Over the next couple of years the retirement of existing partners is likely to create opportunities to increase the number of sessions worked if this is desired.

Support is available as one of the 160 rural and remote practices, including a ‘golden hello’ payment of £10,000 to GPs taking up their first post in a rural practice and a relocation package of up to £5,000.

For more information please see our advert on NHS Scotland Recruitment or contact Robert Macnaughton (Practice Manager – rmacnaughton@nhs.net) or Emma Garden (Asst. Practice Manager – emma.garden@nhs.net).  Or give us a call on 01349 863034.
