Vacancy: GP (Islay Medical Services)

An exciting opportunity for a motivated and enthusiastic GP who wants to practice dynamic, patient centred medicine in an evolving practice providing 24/7 care to the population of Islay and its visitors.

  • Holistic Care provided across 3 sites
  • Pre-hospital cover and a busy Community Hospital and Emergency Department
  • Close and developing links with secondary care in Glasgow and the Emergency Medical Retrieval Service
  • Committed programme of undergraduate teaching
  • A supportive team of existing principal GPs and healthcare professionals committed to service development
  • Excellent QOF achievement

Out of Hours care is an essential part of the work which we do on Islay, allowing us to provide joined up care and a higher standard of clinical integration. These posts are ideal for GPs who want to work as true Generalists across daytime practice, community hospital inpatient care and a busy rural emergency department. They are also ideal for those hoping to develop their CV, gain experience in remote and rural primary care and develop teaching skills.

The posts will be salaried for daytime work with additional pro-rata remuneration for Out of Hours.

Maybe you have become disillusioned with modern, urban General Practice and want to rekindle your interest in general medicine? Maybe you are starting your career and want to experience life and work in an exciting and dynamic practice?

We are interested in receiving applications from suitably experienced GPs to join our existing team. We would welcome expressions of interest from suitably experienced GPs for a variety of fixed-term or flexible working arrangements.

Informal enquiries are welcomed by contacting Dr Kate Pickering or Dr Angus MacTaggart on 01496 301039. Applications should be made by submission of CV and covering letter to Islay Medical Services Business Manager by noon on Monday 30th January 2017.

We cover a large area (roughly equivalent to Ordnance Survey sheet 19) containing remote, mainly coastal, rural settlements. Vacancy: Alderney, Channel Islands (GP)

Tired of the NHS and looking for another career option? Private practice in Alderney, the third largest island in the Channel Islands, is an exciting alternative with good earning potential.  We are looking for another GP or a couple to share the workload as the practice is experiencing increased demand for expanded services.

GPs working on the island must have the entitlement to register as a GP in the UK.  This requires MRCGP or recognised GP Training.

Alderney is situated close to Normandy and is both outside the UK and the EU. All GP services are run privately and are entirely outside the NHS. There is a morning surgery which runs from 8-12, very well spaced consultations with open access for emergencies, and then a similar short evening session from 4.30-6pm. We tend to follow up patients rather than immediately referring them to Consultants in Guernsey.  Evening and night calls are rare and usually fairly serious.  Emergencies can be admitted to the island’s cottage hospital or sent to Guernsey by aeroplane or lifeboat.

Essentially, there is a family atmosphere on this small island as we know the patients well, having built up a strong but workable relationship with the local community.  There is an excellent work/ life balance.  Daily life is relaxed and, despite being on call overnight, the workload is not onerous. We take on a good deal of clinical responsibility which is both varied and stimulating and undertake minor procedures in line with experience and competence.  Opportunities to expand personal professional interests abound.  Management of patients requires the confidence to know when to make a hurried transfer to Guernsey or when patients can be safely managed on Alderney.

The cottage hospital is newly built and is “state of the art”. There is an X-ray department with digital transfer for consultant opinion from Guernsey, and regular out-patient clinics run by the Guernsey Consultants and physiotherapists. There are close links with the Consultants in Guernsey at any time of the day or night.

The practice owns a large three storey modern premises with three consulting rooms. The top floor consists of a self contained comfortable two bedroom doctor’s flat which could be extended.

We suggest you have a look at the Alderney website which gives a comprehensive overview of island life:

Vacancy: Langabhat, Western Isles (GP)

Langabhat Medical Practice

Salaried General Practitioner (6/8 sessions), partnership if desired to be mutually agreed.

Langabhat Medical Practice is excited to bring this unique opportunity to the medical community. We are seeking a salaried GP who would love to work in the Western Isles and embrace the quality lifestyle it provides.

Our Practice is based in the Isle of Lewis which is steeped in history and culture. The Island has a fantastic community spirit, which welcomes everyone. We have a thriving tourist industry with visitors from all over the world. The Island caters for all ages and interests, from surfing to traditional family activities.

We are seeking an enthusiastic individual who will enhance the care we offer to our 5500 patients. Langabhat is a training practice which has six surgeries located throughout Lewis’s rural communities which we have recently merged to one practice. We require a patient- centred individual to join our multi-disciplinary team of Nurse Practitioners, Practice Nurses and Health Care Assistants led by a team of innovative and focused GP’s to help drive our vision of a rural, modern medical practice.

We are looking to develop the Practice, and are therefore seeking a GP to join our team with the view to becoming a partner if desired.   Ideally we would like an 8 session GP however we would be flexible with the right candidate.  In addition to the above we need someone who will support and take an interest as we make the transition from QOF to the new GMS contract terms.

The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to take on out of hours work at Western Isles Hospital though this is not compulsory.

After a period of exciting change merging four separate practices over the last four years, Langabhat Medical Practice are now seeking a candidate who is enthusiastic about helping us shape the future of rural General Practice.

Langabhat is a very high earning practice that has always achieved maximal or near maximal QOF points.

If you are seeking the right work/life balance, Langabhat Medical Practice is for you.
